Tangles

I started working on a few zentangles this year. Zentangles are pictures created from repetitive designs. Here is one that I have been working on. I am thinking of using color on this picture, but haven't decided as of yet.

My Other Crafts

I thought I might share some of the other crafts that I do besides polymer clay charms. These are things I have done or are working.

  • Painting wooden animals - I get the wooden toy animals from Michaels and try to paint them to look as close to the real animals as possible.

  • Quilting - I don't know much about quilting. My Granny use to quilt all the time, but I didn't take the time to learn from her when she was still alive. Now I have to teach myself. I am working on making a small quilt for my cat to lay on.

One of Granny's Quilts

  • Soap making - Right now I am just making melt and pour soap so that I can get the hang of color and scent concentrations. Besides it is very easy to make and almost instant gratification. I am planning to learn to make my own soap in the future.

  • Tangles - I apparently have been drawing tangles for most of my life, but it didn't have a name for it. I just put different textures inside of pictures. I am interested in zen tangles and have been learning to do some of the official ones and working on some drawings using them.

Beginnings of a tangle

I plan to do future blog posts about each of these individual crafts and others that I have not listed. I hope you will come back to see what else I have been up to.

Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor, Michigan seems to be plagued (or blessed) with fairy doors. These pint sized entries have been popping up all over the city for years. The very first one was spotted in the home of Jonathon and Kathleen Wright back in 1993. The doors spread quickly from there and they seem to come and go.

My family and I went to Ann Arbor to see these doors for ourselves. We spotted a few and even saw a fairy sized store under the window of a human sized store and a movie ticket window.

Some of the doors seem to have been vandalized by jealous goblins who may have come through the goblin door that we spotted on our walk.

Once we were home, we noticed a fairy door had appeared in our house. The fairies forgot to lock it and we took a peak inside.

A few days later we discovered another fairy door in our bathroom. I guess the fairies must have followed us home and decided it was a good place to live.

If you would like to know more about the Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor, you can check out the the Urban Fairies website.

Fish Friday May 30-June 5, 2015

I just love watching the relaxing and sometimes exciting atmosphere of the underwater world. All pictures in this post are screen shots from various webcams.

The camera housing has been cleaned recently so the pictures are very clear. The camera operators for the Cayman Cam are excellent.

Craft Haul

May 2015
I decided to start showing some of my craft hauls. This week I bought bottle cap charms, bottle charms and "Made with Love" charms.
  • The bottle caps are for creating polymer clay pies. I am working on a couple short tutorials that will be up soon.
  • The bottle charms are to create mushrooms in a bottle or other thing I think of to put in bottles. We shall see what happens with those.
  • Lastly, the "Made with Love" charms are for attaching to bigger items that create. I think they are much too big to attach to my polymer clay food charms.
  • Items were purchase from Hobby Lobby and Michael's

FAQ

What is Polymer Clay?

Polymer clay is a modeling clay that stays soft and needs to be heated to harden. It is more like plastic than regular clay since it doesn't have earthen clay in it.

Where can I buy your charms?

You can purchase them at my Etsy shop: The Odd Raven.

How do you create your charms?

I use several different techniques and tools to manipulate polymer clay into food charms. Please refer to my tutorials page for details.

Where do you purchase your supplies?

I buy my tools and supplies from various local stores such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics. You can get most of the items from any hobby store.

How to I care for my polymer clay jewelry?

To clean polymer clay jewelry, wipe it off with a soft damp fabric.
When applying perfume or hairspray, it is best not to wear the jewelry. Polymer clay may break if dropped. Jewelry cleaner will ruin you polymer clay piece and sharp objects can scratch the surface.
